Amish Friendship Bread Starter

This week we are going to concentrate on making Amish Friendship Bread. And I’ll warn you this bread take 10 days to make all due to the starter. We need the starter first and foremost so I’ll give that to you first.

This is the start of the Amish Friendship Bread starter.
The recipe is Day 1:
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
2 1/2 teaspoons yeast
Mix together and then cover loosely.

Day 2-3-4: Stir once a day until smooth.

Day 5: Add 1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
Stir until smooth.

Day 6-7-8-9: Stir once a day until smooth.

Day 10: Add 1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup milk

After this you will be able to use the starter in the Amish Friendship Bread recipe.

This is what the starter looks like on Day 1. I will continue to post pages on what the starter looks like as we go along.

One thing to remember is that each batch of starter will make 3 loaves of bread. You can always keep a loaf to yourself and give the other two away.

This is how the starter looks on Day 4. Do you see how it starts to keep it’s shape after you stir it? Tomorrow will be the day we add more too it.
